Esteaño, a raízde los15añosde laSema-
naBinacionaldeSalud, seaborda informaciónsobre la
poblaciónmigrante latinoamericana, enfatizando sus
característicasy losdesafíosen lamateria.
Para ello, el presente documento se ha divi-
dido en cuatro secciones. En la primera, se abordan
las características sociodemográficasde lapoblación
migrante. En la segunda, se muestra el acceso a la
seguridadmédica de acuerdo a tres determinantes:
la edad, la ocupación y la condición de pobreza. En
el tercer apartado se estudian tres temas de salud,
como son: la diabetes mellitus, las enfermedades
mentales y algunas condiciones de la población en
edad avanzada. En la última sección se hace refe-
rencia a las acciones conjuntas emprendidas para el
cuidadode lasaludde losmigrantesysus familiasen
EUA
, a travésde laSemanaBinacional deSalud. Final-
mente, seapuntanalgunas reflexionesgenerales.

Metodología
La fuentede informaciónde lasdosprimeras seccio-
nes es el suplemento demarzo de la
Current Popu-
lation Survey
de los años 2010 a 2014. Asimismo,
para ilustrar algunos de los principales problemas
de salud se utiliza la
National Health Interview Sur-
vey
de 2010 a 2014. La población objetivo son las
personas que nacieron en México, Centroamérica

o Sudamérica,

que al momento de las encuestas
residían en EstadosUnidos. Dichos grupos son com-
parados con las personas quenacieronen
EUA
yque
declararonsernohispanosde razablanca(186millo-
nes). Conel propósitode lograr unamayor represen-
tatividad en las cifras, se elaboró un promedio anual
de losperiodosde referencia.

This year, to mark the 15
th
anniversary of Bina-
tional HealthWeek, general information regarding
the Latin American migrant population is shown,
emphasizing its featuresand theobstacles it faces.
To this end, this report is divided into four
sections.Thefirstaddresses thesociodemographic
characteristics of themigrant population. The se-
conddiscussesaccesstomedical insurancethrough
three determining factors: age, employment and
poverty level. The third section explores three of
themainhealth issues: diabetesmellitus,mental ill-
nesses and certain conditions affecting the elderly
population. The last section refers to joint actions
for thehealth careofmigrants and their families in
theUS, through theBinationalHealthWeek. Lastly,
anumber of general reflections arepresented.
Thiswork isabinationalmulti-agencyeffort
that provides informationwhich, it is hoped, will be
useful forhealth inLatinAmericanmigrants living in
theUS, on theunderstanding that thehealthof the
population includes thehealthofmigrants.
Methodology
The March supplement of the
Current Popula-
tion Survey
from 2010 to 2014 was the source
of information for the first two sections. Likewise,
the
National Health Interview Survey
from2010
to 2014 was used to illustrate some of the main
health problems. The target populations were
people born in Mexico, Central

or South

Ameri-
ca, resident in theUnited States at the timeof the
surveys. These groups are compared with people
born in the United States, who stated that they
werenon-Hispanicwhites (186million). Inorder to
achievemore representativefigures, anannual ave-
ragewas compiledof the referenceperiods.
