En años recientes, el patrónmigratorio entreMéxico y Estados Unidos ha cambiado;
la crisis económica en el país vecino del norte en2008, el incremento en las deporta-
ciones, la pérdida de empleos, el aumento en la seguridad fronteriza, entre otros, son
factoresqueexplicanel cambioenel comportamientomigratorio. Estecapítuloofrece
información estadística sobre los cambios en el fenómeno migratorio entre México
y Estados Unidos. Para ello utilizaremos las muestras de los Censos de Población y
Vivienda2000y2010, quenospermitenconstruirel ÍndiceAbsolutode IntensidadMi-
gratoria(IAIM)quesintetiza lascuatroexpresionesde lamigracióncaptadasal interior
de los hogares censales: porcentajes de viviendas con recepciónde remesas, conemi-
grantes, conmigrantes circulares y conmigrantes de retorno entreMéxico y Estados
Unidos. Específicamente seabordan característicasde loshogarespor gradoabsoluto
de intensidadmigratoria y un análisis del cambio entre2000 y2010, a nivel nacional
ypor entidad federativa.
In recent years, the migration patterns between Mexico and the United States has
changed. The 2008 economic crisis suffered by the northerly neighbour, the increase
indeportations, job lossesand the increase inborder security, are someof the factors
accounting for this change in migratory behaviour. This chapter provides statistical
information on the changes in migration between Mexico and the United States.
Therefore, we will be using samples from 2000 and 2010 Population and Housing
Censuses, which enable us to build the absolute migration intensity index (IAIM).
This synthesises the four impacts of migration identified within the households in
the census: percentage of households receiving remittances, with emigrants, with
circularmigrants, andwith returnedmigrants, betweenMexicoand theUnitedStates.
The specific characteristics of households are measured by the absolute degree of
migratory intensity and an analysis of the change between 2000 and 2010, on a
national level, andby state.
