migratoria entre México y Estados Unidos, los cuales están asociados a factores so-
cioeconómicos ypolíticos deambos países. Entreellos destacan, la implementaciónde
lapolíticanorteamericanade seguridadnacional y ladesfavorable situacióneconómica
observadadesde2008enaquel país.
Las medidas de seguridad fronteriza estadounidense aumentaron y se extendieron al
interior del país. Por un lado, esto ha desincentivado lamigración y la ha dirigido hacia
puntosdecrucemenosvigilados, pero tambiénmáspeligrosos. Porotro lado, haaumen-
tadoel númerodemexicanos devueltos del interior queyahabían instalado su lugar de
residencia en aquel país. A pesar de ello, en 2013 se avizora un pequeño repunte en el
volumende losflujosmigratoriosen la fronteranorte.
The beginning of the 21st century has seen major changes in migration patterns
between Mexico and the United States, affected by both countries’ socioeconomic
andpolitical issues. Foremost among themare the implementationofNorthAmerican
national securitypolicyand theunfavourableeconomicsituation in theU.S. since2008.
U.S. border securitymeasures increased andwere extended to inside the country. On
theonehand, thishasbeenadisincentive tomigrationandhaspushed it towards those
crossing spotswhichhave less surveillance, but arealsomoredangerous.On theother,
the number ofMexicans sent back home from inside theUS has risen, when they had
already established themselves there. Despite all this, in 2013 there were signs of a
small uptick in thevolumeofmigrationflowsat thenorthernborder.
